One person wrote, sharing their own experience which led to a scary diagnosis: “Hey op. I have this on my pinky finger. Went to a dermatologist. Mine was just an error in my code but they do so it can be an early sign of cancer. A closer look at it by a dermatologist will help you. My GP referred me to see a dermatologist. Best of luck.”
Another said it could be harmless, writing: “I had one on my toenail recently. Went to the derm and confirmed it’s longitudinal melanonychia. For me, it’s apparently not concerning but something they want to keep an eye on and measure to make sure it’s not changing. Hope the same for you, Tough_Nips!”
According to Healthline, having a dark line on your fingernails or toenails can come from a condition called melanonychia – a type of melanoma skin cancer.
One woman narrowly escaped death after spotting a dark line on her thumb too, having been diagnosed with one of the most life-threatening forms of cancer.
