Crusted scabies
In immunocompromised patients, a highly contagious form known as crusted scabies occurs. It causes thick, scaly plaques on the elbows, knees, hands, and feet and contains a large number of mites. This form requires more aggressive and prolonged treatment under close medical supervision.

Why it’s important to react early
Delaying diagnosis and treatment facilitates the spread within the family, childcare and social institutions. In addition to severe discomfort, untreated scabies can lead to secondary bacterial infections and worsen existing skin conditions such as eczema or dermatitis .
