Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, but the chances of successful treatment increase dramatically when it’s detected early. Unfortunately, many people ignore subtle warning signs, mistaking them for minor issues. Recognizing these symptoms could save your life—or the life of someone you love.
Below are 12 early signs of cancer you should never overlook.
1. Unexplained Weight Loss
If you lose more than 5–10% of your body weight without changing your diet or exercise routine, it may be an early sign of certain cancers, such as stomach, pancreas, esophagus, or lung cancer.
2. Persistent Fatigue
Tiredness that doesn’t improve with rest could be a sign of leukemia, colon cancer, or stomach cancer. Cancer-related fatigue often comes from the body’s energy being used to fight the disease.
3. Skin Changes
Watch for new moles, changes in existing moles, or skin lesions that don’t heal. Skin discoloration, redness, or scaling can also indicate skin cancer or other internal cancers.
4. Chronic Pain
Persistent pain in certain areas—such as the back, pelvis, or abdomen—could be linked to bone cancer, ovarian cancer, or colon cancer.
5. Unusual Bleeding or Discharge
Coughing up blood → lung cancer
Blood in urine → bladder or kidney cancer
Rectal bleeding → colon or rectal cancer
Any unusual bleeding should be evaluated immediately.
